If you have unclaimed funds, we're here to help guide you to the resources on how to claim your funds and give you tips on keeping your accounts active.
Unclaimed Funds
New York State law generally requires that most deposit accounts that show no signs of customer contact or customer activity for three years be transferred to the New York State Comptroller's Office of Unclaimed Funds. The unclaimed funds will then be publicly listed online to help reunite the account holder with their money. The process of transferring unclaimed funds to New York State is known as escheatment. The types of funds that can be escheated include:
- Checking accounts
- Savings accounts
- CDs
- Money Market Accounts
- Uncashed checks
- Certain safe deposit box contents
Prevent your funds from being turned over to the state by keeping your accounts active. Activities that help prevent escheatment include:
- Customer-initiated deposits or withdrawals
- Transactions at any Ridgewood branch
- Securely logging into your Online or Mobile Banking
- Transfers made using Telephone Banking
- One time Point of Sale or one time transaction using your Ridgewood Debit Mastercard
New York State residents or businesses can visit the New York State Comptroller's Office of Unclaimed Funds and follow their instructions for recovering unclaimed funds. Click on the additional resource links below for information on how to file the following claims:
- Businesses and Organizations
- Deceased Owners and Estates
